The qi flows throughout the body in channels, the meridians (Jing-luò), which connect body organs/ functions, tissues, muscles and also mental activities within an invisible network.
According to Chinese Medicine, there are 12 main meridians and 8 extra meridians in which both Qi and Xue (blood) flow. When physical or emotional symptoms appear, it indicates stagnation, deficiency or excess of Qi and/ or Blood in the meridians.
For this reason, an individual and accurate diagnosis is of great importance in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Location, nature and type of the pain or symptom help to understand which meridian is in imbalance and where there is excess or deficiency.
With the help of specially defined acupoints, the meridians are stimulated using acupuncture needles or acupressure in order to restore the body's natural balance.
